Meet the Team
Ethan Prater is the Chief Executive Officer of NovoEd. He believes that the best digital learning experiences lead to the best outcomes for consumers and enterprises. Ethan has built enterprise products with a consumer focus in leadership roles at companies including Castlight Health, Jigsaw (now Data.com at Salesforce), DoubleClick (by Google), and Yahoo! He holds an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a BA in German from Yale University.
Amin Saberi is Co-founder and Chairman of NovoEd. He is also a professor at Stanford University where he developed an earlier version of the platform used to offer Stanford courses to hundreds of thousands of students. His research focuses on the intersection of computer and social sciences and he is co-director of the Stanford Social Algorithms Lab.
Matt Glickman is Executive Chairman of NovoEd. He is a successful serial technology entrepreneur, having co-founded and served as CEO of both BabyCenter and Merced Systems. He has been involved in educational organizations such as Teach for America and New Schools Venture Fund and lectures at Stanford GSB. Matt holds an MBA and a MA-Education from Stanford and a BA from Amherst College.
Clint Korver is the Chief Operating Officer of NovoEd. Prior to joining, he was a partner at Ulu Ventures where he led NovoEd’s seed investment round. He is a lecturer at Stanford University where he teaches entrepreneurship. He also founded and led four Silicon Valley startups, co-authored Ethics for the Real World (Harvard Business Press 2008) and has a PhD and MS in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford and a BA with honors in Mathematics from Grinnell College, where he currently serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees.
Farnaz Ronaghi is Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at NovoEd. She designed and developed the Venture Lab platform at Stanford University while a PhD student. She is passionate about making education, as a basic human right, more accessible and meaningful through collaboration and experiential learning. As of January 1, 2013, she has taken a leave of absence from work on her PhD thesis on the creation of social incentives in online learning to pursue NovoEd full time.
Ben Alisuag is a Programs Associate at NovoEd. Most recently, he led the implementation of Gooru’s personalized learning platform in 10 school school districts across the country. Ben taught high school English both through the Teach for America and Fulbright programs. He holds a BA in English from the University of Pennsylvania and a MS in Teaching from Fordham University. Lisa Brefini is a Course Operations Consultant at NovoEd. Before joining NovoEd, Lisa managed study abroad programs at the University of New Hampshire, taught high school English in France, and worked for WorldTeach and the Institute of International Education. She holds a master’s degree in Education from Harvard University.
As Director of Product for NovoEd, Greg leads product management, design, and marketing. Greg serves on the Board for Leadership High School and advises a number of edtech startups. Previously, he was a Fellow with NewSchools Venture Fund and an intern at Coursera. Greg holds a MA-Education and MBA from Stanford and a BA from Harvard. Learn more at https://novoed.com/users/greg
Charlie is on the Instructional Programs team at NovoEd. He is passionate about applying new pedagogies to online learning environments, and brings a background in management consulting and enterprise software. He is also an editor for the MOOC directory Class Central. Charlie holds an MBA from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.
Adam is a Director of Partner Development at NovoEd. He began his career in education, teaching history and coaching basketball near Philadelphia, then working for Envision Schools in San Francisco. Prior to joining NovoEd, Adam spent seven years working in business development and sales at media startups in the Bay Area, including SigFig, Huddler.com, and Bleacher Report. Daniel Ferketa is a Software Engineer at NovoEd. He graduated with a masters degree in Computer Science from Maharishi University of Management and bachelors degree in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering from Addis Ababa University. Jen comes to NovoEd with a hybrid of education and business experience. As a high school teacher and administrator, she built programs to further diversity, multiculturalism, and community engagement. Most recently, Jen was a consultant with A.T. Kearney, a management consulting firm, and collaborated with clients on strategic initiatives to transform business and culture. She has experience with schools, nonprofits, governmental agencies, and companies across several industries. Jen attained her MBA from the University of Michigan and her BA and MA in English from Stanford University. She lives in San Francisco and enjoys hiking, road biking, poetry writing, and serving on the board of Leadership High, a local charter school.
Albert is a Product Manager at NovoEd who is passionate about education and technology. Prior to joining NovoEd, he was a Data Scientist and Application Developer at Google where he worked on internal web applications, analytics, and taught Python programming. Jade is a UX Consultant at NovoEd. Andrew is an Instructional Programs Associate at NovoEd. He is a graduate of the CORO Program in Public Affairs, through which he worked at diverse organizations including the San Francisco Teachers’ Union and in Bechtel’s Treasury. Rachel is a Software Engineer at NovoEd. She graduated from Stanford University with a BS in Symbolic Systems, concentrating in Human-Computer Interaction. She likes building pretty things, watching football, playing strategy video games, and using technology to improve learning outcomes.
Abrey Mann is a Software Engineer from Ukiah, CA. He graduated from Stanford University with a major in Symbolic Systems and concentration in Human-Computer Interaction. He is fascinated by the potential of technology to transform the environment in which people learn, and to provide a high quality educational experience that allows anyone in the world to contribute.
Brittany is the Office Manager and Recruiting Coordinator at NovoEd. Before joining NovoEd she worked with various non-profits focusing on initiatives around local manufacturing, entrepreneurship, global health, sustainable and local food education, and social justice based art education. She holds an MA from NYU in Art Education and a BA from UCLA in Design | Media Arts.
Andrew Miranda is a Quality Assurance Analyst consulting with NovoEd. He has previously worked with Sony Computer Entertainment of America and Zynga. He has a passion for software testing and believes in error free products to provide clean features and ensure the best user experience.
Alison is a Director of Partner Development at NovoEd. Robert Pirritano is a Quality Assurance Analyst consulting with NovoEd. He has previously worked as a Doctor of Chiropractic for over 14. He followed his passion and earned his Bachelors in Information Technology with a focus in Software Systems Engineering. This passion has built a desire to provide the user with the high quality experience that is expected from NovoEd.
Drew is an Instructional Programs Associate at NovoEd. Prior to joining NovoEd, he spent four years teaching middle school through Teach for America, followed by managing teacher development programs for Success Academies Charter Schools. Most recently, he designed solutions for scaling outreach and implementation for Gooru's partner school districts.
